January 20 & 21, 2005 – Two Schools Join Together, Marin, CA

I took a quick Jet Blue flight to Marin and created Gourd Ocarinas; Bamboo Ocarinas; 2 holed Flutes and 4 holed Flutes with my very special 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Most of the kids had me the year before on another instrument making project! An incredible lady from Microsoft came back and created a wonderful 3 minute graphic DVD of my work. My work attracted the district supervisor and school board members as well as my principal friends! What a great time we had…there are rumors that I may return next year for a longer residency. Thanks to music teacher supreme, Irene Chagall and everyone involved and of course the grant money too! They are going to keep the instruments until the end of the year as I suggested…yeah!!!

January 23, 2005 Tesla’s Birthday Party

Tesla’s mom and dad heard about me from other parents (as I slowly start to do more very early childhood parties) asked me to come play for Tesla’s 1 year birthday party. I was asked to interact with the tiny kids some no older than a year!!! I kept their attention during my 30 minute presentation, made them laugh, talked to them, had them play soft rattles while moms and dads gently played my variety of hand drums. Very soothing and gentle and NO one lost their attention, why? I am a very good teacher, motivator and I’m funny too or maybe I just looked weird to them!

January 25, 2005 - Elementary School, Norwalk, CA

#3 of a series of 8 Native American studies for 3rd thru 5th graders.

January 26, 2005 - Adult Students visit my home to make instruments

Session #2 has Karen and Peg, still coming to my house: continuing of their Water Drums, Jaguar Calls, Snake Gourd Rain Figures and Gourd Ocarinas.

January 29 & 30, 2005 – “YATIRI – Music of the Andes”

We were re-invited back a second year by our favorite agency and the L.A. Times for the L.A. Time Travel Expo. YATIRI always in great form performed high energy music from Bolivia. Some friends saw me there and had never seen me play guitar…what a surprise! YATIRI has had me into Andean music since 1980 maybe earlier so I know that music like a local Bolivian would. During that time, I was honored by the Bolivian community and I learned from master folkorist, Mario Torrico, great friend and member of YATIRI. Dennis Helguero hypnotized everyone with his incredible PANPIPE and KENA playing, man can he play and sing!!! This is the only band I’ve been in where all kinds of pretty ladies came to say hello!!! Hahaha…
